Year 7 Instrument

Try-Out Day

On Friday 8 February, the Music Department was full of the sounds of instruments and excitement at the Year 7 Instrument Try-Out day.

On this day, all Year 7 students were given the opportunity to try every orchestral instrument available at Kilbreda College in order to choose an instrument to learn.

The Instrumental Music Information Evening that followed in the Auditorium on 12 February was very well attended. Our Middle Orchestra and String Ensemble performed with impressive instrument demonstrations given by staff and students.  Vocal students, Ellie Carter and Michaela D’Abate, also performed a vocal duet.

As a result, we have had a record number of Year 7 students enrolling in our music program, with over 60 enrolments in orchestral instruments, voice, guitar and piano.

We are delighted that students have taken up instruments from all orchestral families, including an increased interest in Brass!  This now ensures a balanced Training Orchestra.

The Training Orchestra for all students learning an orchestral instrument will begin on Friday 22 March at 7.30am in the Band Room.

There are many other ensemble groups on offer for students to join such as Junior Choir, Guitar Ensemble, String Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and Flute Ensemble.  These ensembles with times will be advertised in the Daily Bulletin.

We look forward to being part of the musical journey of our Year 7 students this year and beyond.

Mary Poppins cast ready to rehearse!

Congratulations to all students who recently auditioned for our 2019 Senior School Production, Mary Poppins.  Every show is different and Mary Poppins has particular requirements.  Unfortunately, we could not take everyone who auditioned.

If you were not successful this time, we encourage you to become involved in the many other Performing Arts co-curricular activities offered at Kilbreda and try again for future productions.

We will shortly be inviting applications from students in Years 9-11 who wish to be involved in the production as backstage crew.

Congratulations to the following girls who have been cast in the lead female roles:

Ellie Carter - Mary Poppins

Emily Crick - Winifred Banks

Rachel Jones and Mia Wilson - Jane Banks

Michaela D’Abate - Miss Andrew and Bird Woman

Amelie Foster - Mrs Corry

Ella Allan - Neleus

There are many other character roles still to be cast during rehearsals.
