International Arts Education Week:  24-30 May

The International Arts Education Week aims at increasing the community’s awareness of the importance of an arts education, and at reinforcing its cooperation by promoting cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue, and social cohesion.  The theme of the week is focused on the power of an arts education to help unit our families, schools, and communities.

This week we see the college musical We Will Rock You on stage for several shows.  It’s an event that is the culmination of many hours of dedication from staff and students, that sees our students fully engaged in the performing arts.  On stage we will see our students dancing, singing, and acting to bring together a story that speaks to a wide audience.

Focusing on Arts Education for this week encourages the global arts community to contribute to the conversation about the power of the Arts in schools and in life more broadly.  Here are some prompts that make us think more deeply:

How does arts education impact other civic and social sectors of our community?

In what ways can young creatives lead us toward the future?

This week the Arts teachers have organised several lunch time events in acknowledgment of Arts Education Week.  The week commenced with a dance-off with our resident DJ Ms Holley.

On Tuesday Mrs Markwell’s art activity saw a large groups of students ‘drawing with scissors’ in the same way French artist Henri Matisse did 100 years ago.
