Micro-credentials

Samples place 1st, 2nd and 3rd!

Last year during our Micro-Credentials week students who participated in Citizen Science collected yeast samples for a UK based research organisation called MeMBrane. MeMBrane were running a competition to find the most alcohol resistant yeast strain in order to ‘engineer’ a stronger cell membrane for biotechnology, using a combination of molecular and cellular techniques.

Student samples of different brands of brewers' and bakers' yeast were entered into the competition. The results have been announced and our samples placed first, second and third! Students who were a part of this program have contributed enormously to Citizen Science and the future of cell membrane technology and should feel proud of their participation.
