School Council

Kii TPS Community,

It was so wonderful to see all the staff and students back at school after the Term Two break. We trust that everyone managed to enjoy some time to relax and unwind a little despite still being unable to travel outside of Victoria. Once again however, we found ourselves at the mercy of COVID and back into lockdown before the end of the first week of the term. It is a remarkable quality of the TPS school community that in times like these everyone comes together to support one another. The manner in which our staff manages to shift from face-to-face learning to remote learning, so quickly, is a testament to their professionalism. The TPS School Council would like to thank all teachers for their hard work and dedication, as well as acknowledge Leon and Megan for their leadership throughout these unstable times.

Amazingly, we were able to enjoy the Winter Festival together just hours before entering our fifth lockdown. Talk about great timing! It was wonderful to see so many families mark this annual event with such enthusiasm and joy. Rituals such as the Winter Festival are so important to our school as they represent the marking of time and the coming together of the whole community. We would like to acknowledge the members of the Winter Festival Sub-Committee and the time and effort they put into planning and organising this event.

Below are key updates on some of the things School Council has been working on:

School Uniforms – Council continues to liaise with PSW School Uniform to provide school delivery and collection services onsite at TPS. At present however, due to COVID on-site deliveries to the school are unavailable. PSW will hopefully be able to attend Prep Orientation sessions, allowing parents to purchase face-to-face. A second hand uniform stall will hopefully be held once COVID restrictions ease.

School Photographs – In 2022, TPS will switch to a new photographer for our school photos. After much research by several members of council, Arthur Reed has been chosen and booked. The flexibility in packages and purchasing options was a big plus and we look forward to seeing all those beaming smiles next year

Kitchen garden Project – Council continues to investigate this project and hopes to move forward with it in the near future. Stay tuned!

School Advocacy Campaign – We continue to work on acquiring more funding from the state government to upgrade facilities and progress with our master plan. If you are interested in assisting in building a campaign to advocate for more funding please get in touch (schoolcouncil@thornburyps.vic.edu.au).

If you are interested in getting involved around the school, there are several sub-committees that meet and everyone is welcome to attend. TPS Sub-Committees are – Finance, Education, Environment, Social, Communications, OSHC and Master Plan and Grounds. Please email the TPS School Council (schoolcouncil@thornburyps.vic.edu.au) for further information.
