In the Art / Craft Room

Art

Students have almost completed their learning journey on artist and ceramicist, Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran. All students have completed their clay works that are now ready to be painted. The Junk Yard sculptures are nearing completion with most classes finalising their painted bases and adding the final embellishments to their artworks. We then drew the finished sculpture in our sketchbooks. We also made our winter festival lanterns and the children were very proud to use their lanterns during the Winter Festival in term two.

Our term three was interrupted by our state's fifth lockdown but that didn't prevent our little artist from being very productive. As you can see from the images below. Our next unit of work will focus on the YARRENYTY ARLTERE ARTISTS from Alice Springs. These Indigenous artists make beautiful soft sculptures  made from recycled bush dyed blankets, stitched and embellished. Students viewed their artworks and a video. They were then encouraged to draw an Australian animal and draw lines and patterns to represent the stitched lines for their craft work.  We also explored Drawing the Other Half as an online drawing activity.

I have provided a link to a video of YARRENYTY ARLTERE ARTISTS, which I attached in google classroom, that you may also find interesting.

Craft

Students have completed their main lesson focused clay works and they look fantastic! Most classes will be painting these in Term Three.

We also completed our Winter festival lanterns and the students were very proud to use these during our Winter Festival at the end of Term Two.

During Remote Learning

Our term three was interrupted by our state's fifth lockdown but that didn't prevent our little artist from being very productive. As you can see from the images below. Our working from home unit focused on the YARRENYTY ARLTERE ARTISTS from Alice Springs. These Indigenous artists make beautiful soft sculptures  made from recycled bush dyed blankets, stitched and embellished. Students viewed their artworks and a video. Students were then encouraged to draw an Australian animal and draw lines and patterns to represent the stitched lines for their craft work.  We also explored Drawing the Other Half as an online drawing activity.

In the Craft Room

We are  continuing work on our textile projects and working towards completing these as well. The Prep children have completed their stitched hessian bags and are now completing their finger knitted handles. Class one are continuing work on their recorder bags and class two will begin work on their knitted teddy bear.  Class three have finished their sunray cushions and will begin knitting their shepherd doll. Class four will also begin Fair Isle knitting to make a knitted gnome. Class six will explore more complex Fair Isle knitting patterns to make a knitted cushion.

When permitted I would love parents and carers  to assist in the craft room to support student learning. This term students will need a lot of support knitting and stitching.  You will need a current working with children check. Please sign in at the office before you come to the art room.
