Dickens Room
It has been a great week in both the Wimbi and Marram classes, with the children making the most of the beautiful weather at the start of the week to explore and solidify their learning.
Our Marram class has had some magical moments of learning, we explored numeracy this week through a counting and rhyming story. Tracking the numbers as they went from ten down to one and then using our finders to represent the numbers in as many ways as we could discover. This ability to think abstractly (for example the number six can be made using 4 and 2, 3 and 3 or 5 and 1) is crucial for all areas of learning.
We also engaged in a moment of gratitude this week, pulling on our learning around empathy and self regulation through the lens of sharing positivity and gratitude with our peers. The children always enjoy the process of being able to share and then snuff out the candle.
Our Wimbi class has been really enjoying exploring and discovering the opportunities within the program. Their curiosity and independence is driving so much learning both individually and socially..
The children are demonstrating some amazing concentration and focus in their interactions and this is leading to great discussions with peers and teachers that extend their learning and development.
Outside this week the Wimbi class were working together when exploring the warm water and bubbles- tipping, pouring and filling over the water wheels, and eagerly discussing how they created 'more bubbles'. This extended into other cooperative and imaginary play, with some children creating a 'train' play sequence and assigning roles and language to it.
We hope that everyone has been able to have a safe and warm weekend,
Al and Mardi.
Moore Room
Hope you all had a warm weekend!
There has been a lot of fantastic opportunities for pre-literacy skills throughout the program. We have had wonderful moments of; reading books, storytelling with felts and magnetic boards, painting, music and dance as well as blocks to create storylines and scripts. This children are particularly enjoying rhyming and counting songs and books, which enables the children to listen and respond to speech, interact with text, begin to understand letter-sound relationships and extend their learning through role playing.
We also had an interactive story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. This has not only supported the Chinese language program and nutrition discussions but also some incredulous humour.
We also have had super fun through; potions in the mud patch, ice-cream parlours in the sandpit and some fantastic group games of duck, duck, goose and paper rock scissors. Outdoors we have enjoyed some beautiful weather which has enabled us to enjoy some water play, hoola hoops and chalk creative drawing.
Have a great week!
