Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

Selamat Siang,

Week 6 brought many exciting learning activities and opportunities in the Inquiry Centre.

We extend our thanks to parents and friends for your support on Friday and this week as we transitioned into home learning.

In Literacy, students learnt about Inferencing through watching ‘Little J and Big Cuz’. Students shared their prior knowledge and combined this with information from the text to create inferences. Students will continue to work on creating their own inferences in Week 7. The Inquiry Centre acknowledged National Sorry Day on May 26th. Students responded to dreamtime stories through creative art as well as writing about why it is important to acknowledge when we are sorry to our peers and family. We were so impressed with student’s relating this very important day to their real life experiences.

In Writing, we continued to build on creating strong reasons to support our opinions in persuasive writing.. Some topics included ‘Why cats are better than dogs’, ‘Students should have an extra Recess’ and ‘We should have a class pet’. Students used a graphic organiser to support their persuasive piece and shared their ideas with one another before up-levelling and editing their work.

In Maths, we worked on Data and Statistics. Students used their Data Book to collect information from peers and represent data on different graphs, including picture, bar and column graphs. Students created a survey question and used curiosity and a love of learning to gain data from their peers. We were very impressed to see some graphs on seesaw showing different fruits and vegetables at home!

In Wellbeing, we discussed the character strength of gratitude and how we show that we are thankful to others. Students created a gratitude note for a person of their choosing and included why they are grateful for this person’s actions.  In Science students discussed the seasons and seasonal changes that we can observe. Students used symbols and writing to discuss the similarities and differences between seasons.

We hope you have a great week and we appreciate your partnership in supporting the students from home at this time,

Student Voice

Why is it important to acknowledge ‘Sorry Day’?

  • Emma P - “Because the Aboriginal people were the first people here a long time before other people came”
  • Estelle W - “Sorry Day is an important day because it is when we can remember what happened in the past, like we do for Anzac Day.”
  • Xavier D - “National Sorry Day is important because it is when the Prime Minister apologised to the Aboriginal people.”
  • Molly B - “I feel sorry for the Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people who were not allowed to enjoy their culture. That is why it is important to say sorry
