Year 8 Cricket

Senior Cricket

Last Wednesday the senior boys cricket team ventured to Donarth Reserve for the first knockout round vs Lalor Secondary College. On a humid day Northcote High won the toss and batted, quickly getting to work on a huge total led by a glorious century by Alex Johnston(100*ret).  He and Julian Marshall (36) sent the ball to and over the long boundary regularly in their century opening stand. Ethan McKenzie contributed 27 in the middle order. The result was sealed after a few economical overs of our bowling innings with everyone applying pressure in their spell. Northcote 4/215 off 20 overs defeated Lalor 6/56. The boys represented the school admirably with the game being played in the right spirit. Looking forward to the next round.

Year 7 Cricket

Well done to our Yr 7 boys Cricket team who recently played in the Darebin Division Competition. It was an amazing team effort with the team coming together to take away 2 wins and 1 loss. A big thank you to our student coaches Ned Goodwin, Stanley Nicholson and Soul Stewart, not only did they coach the team, but they also umpired and scored the matches.

In the Girls competition, due to there being no other teams entered in our division our Yr 7 girls team move straight through to the Regionals which are to be played in Term 4. On Thursday the girls took the opportunity to have a training session lead by our Student Coaches before playing a practice match against Preston Boys team.  Our girls are super positive about moving forward.  They are already arranging to have fortnightly training sessions in the cricket nets before school.  Look out for this group of determined young players, I think we will be seeing some success for them in the later part of the year.  We would like to thank our student coaches Amelie Sibillin, Minne O’Sullivan and Jack Moston.

Year 8 Divisional Cricket

On Friday 14th February our Yr 8 Girls team played against Lalor and Thornbury in 2, 8 over games. Having two representative all-round players in our team (captain Ayda Canon and Acacia Schipper) gave us a distinct advantage. Not surprising though all of our other 8 players also made timely contributions when needed in batting, bowling, wicket keeping and fielding ensuring we won both games. Ayda directed the team making all players bowl and rotating and retiring players to give everyone the chance to bat. It was noticeable the improvement in our team from game 1 to 2 and also from last year. A special thanks to Minnie O’Sullivan of Year 9 who has promoted Girls Cricket participation, coached and trained most of our female Cricketers. Her work is bearing fruit. Thank you also to Jetaime’s mother Ms. Liberatore who turned up with some timely food and drinks for the coach and all the players. One of the perks of the job. Mr. Price

In the Yr 8 boys competition, our boys had comfortable wins over Preston and Lalor Secondary College, they  drew with Thornbury.  At the end of the day, Thornbury also had 2 wins and a draw.  The results were down to the wire and had to be checked by further officials.  Thornbury ended up overall winners by percentage. Congratulations team: they didn’t get the results they were after but played some great cricket and were fantastic sports throughout the day.  Thank you to our Student Coach Max Daphne and to staff member Steven Flight for selecting and coaching the team.
