7/8 Visual Art
The Year 7/8 Visual Arts classes have been learning about colour theory this term. They have successfully painted a colour wheel learning how to mix secondary and tertiary colours, and a tonal gradation painting focussing on mixing tints and shades of colours.
'Tints' are colours that have had white mixed with them, and 'shades' are colours with black added to them.
The students are currently working on a "Cubism" inspired tree painting using both tints and shades of complementary colours. Complementary colours are opposite each other on the colour wheel so colour combinations could be yellow and purple, blue and orange, and red and green. The painting's background and tree have been split into geometric shapes mimicking the style of Cubism invented and mastered by Picasso.
The students should be commended on their painting and mixing skills and for completing such fantastic artworks! Well done!
Year 11/12 Visual Design- Jumper Task
This term the Year 11/12 Visual Design students have been given a plain grey jumper each to complete design works on in their own chosen theme. The students have many options to choose from when working on their jumpers including iron-on transfers, image transfer sheets, fabric paint, fabric glue for attachment of decorations, textile crayons and markers, and screen-printing/stencilling processes.
So far the class have come up with some terrific themes and designs for their jumpers including musical bands/performers, Country and Western, Optical Art, sun and moon, skulls and roses, and characters from computer games as shown in the picture.
I look forward to the students completing their designs and seeing the imaginative ways they have used the available materials.
Year 11 Visual Art – Postmodern Paintings
Early this term Year 11 Visual Arts students completed their Postmodern Paintings, having to successfully appropriate a previous famous artwork from history into a new artwork with new meanings. This task focusses on the Postmodern Frame which we use in Visual Arts as a tool to interpret and create artworks.
The students found some very well-known paintings to recontextualise and appropriate (copy and change) for their works, including Monet's "Water Lily Pond", van Eyck's "The Marriage of Arnolfini" and Bosch's "Christ Carrying the Cross".
The students should be congratulated on the excellent artworks they have produced and how well they have used the Postmodern Frame to create their unique Postmodern Painting.

Congratulations to Tori Hopkins who is currently working with Miss Johnson and classes to complete the practicum requirements of her PDHPE degree. Miss Hopkins will be at Boorowa Central School for a six-week block till the end of term. Thank you to all the PDHPE classes that have been under the guidance of Miss Hopkins, as an up and coming teacher and a huge thank you to the staff who have volunteered their own time to assist. It is a big commitment for a teacher on top of their day to day teaching to willingly assist student teachers.
