Katoomba Excursion

Last Thursday 46 members of our senior SLR and fitness classes travelled to Katoomba, near the Blue Mountains, to participate in a abseiling expedition conducted by a professional ‘Outdoor Recreation’ Company.
After a 6 and a half hour bus trip the students poured off the bus eagerly excited to partake in a new experience. Due to the size of the group the students were split into two smaller groups. The first group completed a multi-pitch abseil at Malatia Wall that took approximately 4 hours under the expert guidance of Eagle Rock Adventures instructors. The highest pitch was a challenging 45m approx. While the second group, led by Mr Gaffney, participated in a bush walk, down the ‘Grand Staircase’ and then following the Dardanelles Pass, stopping along the way to take in the scenery of the Three Sisters. This was a challenging walk with a descent down ‘900 steps’ and an elevation change of 330m.
After a long first day all students were exhausted and needed a much deserved recharge before the next day.
Friday morning was an early start with the second group of abseilers departing at 8:30am on a cool yet pristine morning and the bushwalkers leaving at 9:30am. Mr Gaffney once again led the bushwalk, adding a diversion along the cliff top walk to Scenic World to meet the abseilers as they climbed up out of the valley at the completion of their adventure.
The Eagle Rock crew were once again impressed by the students' bravery and participation, and wanted to congratulate them on their positive attitude and their manners over the two days.
A huge thank you to Mr McNamara who organised the excursion and to Miss Langtry, Miss Harris, Alice Toohey, Mr Price, Mr Bacon and Mr Gaffney for providing the students with this amazing opportunity. It was a very successful trip with many positive comments coming from both students and staff.
