Teaching & Learning 5N

Over the last few weeks in 5N, we have been actively applying the writing process and elements of V.C.O.P (Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers and Punctuation) to improve our writing confidence and performance.  This has involved taking our initial ideas and transforming them into a finished product through the sequenced steps of - planning, drafting, editing, revising and publishing.

Students were excited to apply what they have been learning about the narrative text type in their own stories about ‘The Scientist’. This included the importance of hooking the reader using a sensational story starter, describing main characters using both physical and personality traits and using the 5 senses to describe their story setting.

Even Gary has enjoyed listening to our amazing stories and providing support. Can you spot him in the photos?

Students have worked hard to incorporate peer and teacher feedback to improve their writing pieces and achieve their writing goals. This has included an emphasis on ‘Vinny Vocabulary’ – the use of ambitious words that are specifically chosen for effect on the reader. Any interesting words and phrases used by students are recognised and celebrated by adding them to our class VCOP wall. We have also been expanding our vocabulary through the ‘Word of the Week’ – each week students are introduced to a new and challenging word and encouraged to use it in their writing and speaking. Can you use this week’s word, - engrossed, in a conversation?
