Feathers, Furs and Leaves
During Term 1, our science topic has been, “Feathers, Furs and Leaves.” It begins by looking at the difference between living and non-living things. The topic then moves on to classifying animals and explaining how an animal’s covering is related to its habitat. We have researched the specific features of different groups of animals such as birds. Birds are covered in feathers, are bipedal, are warm blooded and reproduce by laying hard shelled eggs. Students worked individually or in pairs to research an animal and answer the following questions:
What family do they belong to?
Are they an invertebrate or vertebrate?
What are they covered in?
What does your animal have that other animals do not?
Are they warm blooded or cold blooded?
How do they reproduce?
How do they move?
Any other facts you can find.
Once the students finished researching their animal, they presented it as a hanging mobile. Here are some awesome examples.
