COVID-19 Update

At this stage we have tracked approximately 100 students with COVID-19 during Term 1. It is indeed very evident that COVID-19 is still very present in our local community and everyone’s vigilance is still very necessary.

Each family has now been equipped with sufficient Rapid Antigen Tests to hopefully undertake twice weekly testing for the remainder of the school term.

We continue to have many families and several staff currently in isolation. At times it has been and will continue to be difficult to replace staff as there is a large shortage of CRTs (relief teachers).

Thanks to all families for working very closely with the school on this matter to support the safety and wellbeing of everyone in our community.

GRIP Student Leadership

A group of 11 LPS school leaders, including our school captains journeyed to the Melbourne Exhibition Centre on March 24, to attend the GRIP Student Leadership Day along with 3000 others from around the state.

The students participated in various workshops which included meeting with other student leaders from a variety of different schools.

This was the first time LPS has participated in such an event and the feedback from the students was that it was an excellent learning experience.

Some Staffing Changes

We have said goodbye to Mr Roberts who was running our tutoring program and working with teachers on their numeracy teaching practice. Ben has been successful picking up a job outside of education and we thank him for the work he has done with LPS and wish him well.

Mary Hefel and Phil Cavill will both be retiring at the end of Term 1. Mary has been with us for 30+ years and Phil for 15+. Their contribution to our school has been phenomenal over this time. There are many programs to do with the farm that simply would not be possible without Mary and Phil.

Ms Collins is also leaving us to have a baby. We wish her and Jeremy all the best in becoming parents!

In turn, we welcome Jessica Payne (who has been at our school as a CRT) to teach 6V for the remainder of the year.

Leah Pask will take on a tutoring role within the school from the beginning of Term 2.

NAPLAN

Our Year 3 and 5 students have been participating in online trials to ensure a smooth testing period in May. This also allows the students to become familiar with the online platform to help alleviate any stress or nerves leading into the testing period.

School Council

Last week we had our new School Council attend their first meeting. I would like to welcome new parent members; Nicky Wilson, Evie Reynolds and Natalie Alpine along with new DET members Amy Campbell and Sharne Quinn.

Tracey Mottershead has been voted President of the School Council for 2022.

I look forward to working with all the school councillors over the next 12 months.

There will be no newsletter next week, so I extend my best wishes for a fun and healthy term break. Term 2 begins on Tuesday 26th April.
