Assistant Principal's Report

Curriculum Days
Next week, we have two Curriculum Days. The Curriculum days are taking place on Thursday (12th May) and Friday (12th May). On these days, staff will engage in professional learning around our Jolly Phonics and Jolly Grammar program. These programs form a key foundation for our literacy approaches. We have arranged to fly a phonics expert, Santina DiMauro, down from Sydney to deliver this training to our staff. Santina has been a JollyPhonics Professional Trainer for 20 years and has trained teachers in the UK, Asia, the Middle East and Australia. We are extremely excited about this new learning and its impact for our students at OPPS.
If you need to arrange care for your child during these days, you can book them into Their Care. The link for bookings can be located on the school website.
NAPLAN
Over the next two weeks, our year three and year five students will be completing their NAPLAN assessments. The dates for the assessments are as follows.
- Tuesday 10th May – Writing Assessment
- Monday 16th May – Reading Assessment
- Tuesday 17th May – Grammar Assessment
- Wednesday 18th May – Numeracy Assessment
This is the first time our year three students will be completing this assessment. Our year five cohort will also be the first cohort to be completing all four of the assessments digitally. We encourage families to ensure that any dialogue around NAPLAN is kept positive. At OPPS, we try to ensure that the assessments and lead up to the assessments are as stress-free as possible. All we ask of our students is to try their best. We are sure they will do an excellent job as they always do.
Cross Country
Unfortunately, due to the predicted weather for today, our district cross country was cancelled. This event has been rescheduled to Friday the 20th of May. If your child was attending this event, the date for payment has been pushed back to Thursday 19th May. We wish all students attending this event the best and look forward to hearing about their day.
