Progress Reports

Student progress reports have been emailed to parents and carers earlier this week. While the progress reports do not provide information on predicted grades, they do provide feedback on a range of important work attributes that will give parents and students a very good indication of how things are progressing at the College.

Parent/Teacher Interviews: First day of Term 2

A reminder to parents that Term 2 classes commence on Wednesday April 27 at 8.10 am.  Tuesday April 26 will be a School Development and will include Parent/Teacher meetings from 2.00 – 4.00 pm in the College Dining Room. We will again be using the online sobs booking system which can be accessed by clicking here:

Parent bookings are now open.  Please note Maths Teacher Deb Hatch will be unavailable on the day.  Email Deb directly to arrange an alternative time for a meeting  Deborah.Hatch@education.wa.edu.au .

Year 12 Hospitality Students

The students will be attending South Regional TAFE (Albany) on Wednesday April 28 and May 5 to enhance their barista and customer service skills. To further develop these skills, students will be making speciality coffees during morning tea whereby staff can purchase at a discounted price.

OLNA Testing

Students need to demonstrate a minimum standard of literacy and numeracy (in addition to a number of other requirements) to achieve a Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) at the end of Year 12. Students can meet this standard by demonstrating Band 8 or higher in the NAPLAN reading, writing and numeracy tests in Year 9 or by meeting the minimum standard of the reading, writing and numeracy components of the Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment in Year 10, 11 or 12.

The first round of OLNA testing for those Year 10, 11 and 12 students yet to meet the minimum standard has now been completed.  As soon as the results are available to us we will forward the information on to students and parents.  It is important to note that students have up to six opportunities (two per year) from Year 10 to Year 12 to demonstrate the literacy and numeracy standard. The next round of testing this year will be in September.

Work Experience – Last Week of Term 2

As a result of the change of date of Country Week, all Year 12 trades and ag studies students will undertake school authorised work experience in the last week of term 2.  Information regarding the one-week block of work experience has been emailed and it would be greatly appreciated if parents could return the work experience placement information form to the College as soon as possible.

Maths Tutoring

College maths teacher Deb Hatch is running maths tutoring sessions on Thursday afternoons between 4.00 - 5.30 pm. These sessions are open to both residential and day students. I encourage all students who may be finding maths challenging to attend, in particular ATAR students and those students who are still working towards meeting the requirements of the OLNA numeracy test.
