ANZAC Day

Last week we spent a lot of time talking about ANZAC Day and the importance of the day for all Australians.

Students shared their understandings about it being the anniversary of the day Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed on the beaches of Gallipoli in 1915 as part of the Allies' invasion.

We spoke about and recognised the 1.5 million men and women who have served Australia in all conflicts, wars and peacekeeping operations and spent time remembering those who were lost. Through these discussions’ educators facilitated and highlighted the profound contribution Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have made to Australia. We spoke about the injustices that Indigenous people were experiencing in Australia and that despite this they served side-by-side with non-Indigenous soldiers, forming friendships and relying on each other for survival.

We plan to extend these discussions further over the coming weeks by using the iPads to further research.

Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group

A Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is a formal statement of commitment to reconciliation. At Beaumaris North OSHC we developed our first RAP back in 2018 using the Narragunnawali platform to register and extend our existing initiatives.

Our RAP Working Group (RAPWG) is a team of dedicated educators, students, family and community members who are willing to represent core drivers of the RAP development/ implementation journey. Unfortunately, many of our members have now left the school or have moved on to other commitments, we would love for new members to join our group and we would like to send an open invitation to our community.

If you are interested in being a part of our RAPWG please email Kelly oshc@beaumarisnorthps.vic.edu.au
