Highlighting 7G

Over the last few months, it has been a pleasure to watch 7G as they grow as students of our College and as personalities all of their own. We have seen them form friendships and rivalries that push them to greater heights as they adapt to secondary school and recover from the long periods of isolation.

Maths

7G has grown from a quiet class of shy Year 6 students into confident and friendly Year 7 students, who tackle each new lesson with determination and a desire to succeed.  In each and every lesson they manage to show their future potential as they seek to overcome the challenge in front of them, as a class, they are a delight to teach.

In future lessons I hope to see them continue to grow as mathematical explorers as we descend into the abyss of algebra and finance, steadied and supported by our class Spotify list and Kahoot.

English

This term has seen 7G develop their creative and persuasive writing techniques. Rubrics along with feedback have enabled  students to get a clear understanding of where they currently are and where they need to get to, enabling clear directions for each individual.

Reading responses have enabled students to respond to short texts through a variety of critical responses and discussions in anticipation of getting ready for Book Clubs next term.

Humanities

7G have been enjoying Humanities this year. Students began with a look at Ancient Australia and learned how our ancestors migrated from Africa to Australia. Recently we have been looking at geographic skills and have learned how different forms of rainfall affect different parts of Australia.

7G have begun the year in an excellent manner. Students are well behaved and keen to learn.

Food Technology

In Food Technology 7G had to design a healthy pancake stack for a dessert. They were required to include a fruit in their pancake batter, they had to add a flavour and they had to have toppings. They also had to take the Australian Guide to healthy eating into consideration for their healthy pancake stack. 7G worked in pairs and the students did an amazing job. They followed the instructions, they made pancakes that they wanted to eat after collaborating with their cooking partner and negotiating ideas and flavours.

The last practical for the term. Moon rocks anyone?

Art

Students in 7G have been learning all about the art element of Tone/Value. After initial exploration into specific artists and various techniques, the students then created their own presentation of their knowledge. Inspired by the subject of animals/pets/insects, 7G have presented a fantastic body of work. The element of texture, using oil pastels as a medium and based on Henri Rousseau, is their next study unit.
