ANZAC Day Ceremony

Bairnsdale Secondary College’s Anzac Day Ceremony was held today, Thursday 7th April 2022 to commemorate the Anzac’s who served before us.

Our College Captains were responsible for the development and hosting of the Anzac Ceremony.  Our College Captains spoke of what Anzac days means to them and gave us an appreciation of the great sacrifice thousands of men and woman have made for our country.

This quote from Sir William Deane, former Governor General of Australia, describes the spirit of Anzac:

ANZAC is not merely about loss.  It is about courage, and endurance, and duty, and love of country and mateship and good humour and the survival of a sense of self-worth and decency in the face of dreadful odds.

Mr Ray Rock was our special guest at the ceremony.  Ray was a Major of the British Army and a veteran of the Middle East conflicts.  Ray is now Vice President of the Bairnsdale RSL sub-branch.  Ray gave an insight into the significance of the Last Post and Reveille and read The Ode.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them

There were musical items from the Senior Concert Band who performed Abide by Me, our national anthem - Advance Australia Fair, Now Thank We All Our God and The Fidelity March.

Mr Kees Dogger performed a very moving The Last Post and The Reveille.

Thank you Mr Ray Rock for his participation and attendance and to all the Year 12 students and all staff members who attended our Anzac Day ceremony.

BTN (Bairnsdale Tambo Network) Meeting

On Tuesday 29th March 2022 members of the BTN , including principals from schools within the network meet onsite at our College.

THE BTN meets on a regular basis and is a great opportunity for principals of all schools within the network to connect.

Our VET Hospitality team as part of their classroom work provided the afternoon tea.  The food, coffee and service was amazing.  Well done to the VET Hospitality students and staff!

Year 7 Welcome BBQ and Feedback evening

Last week our Year 7 Hub hosted our welcome barbecue. It was great to see so many new and some familiar faces coming in and being a part of our College community. The BBQ was cooked by our Year Hub Leaders.  There was plenty to go around!

After the BBQ we had a feedback session with our families.  In the session we asked families various questions around how they found the transition program, what we are doing well and if there any any concerns. It was a great opportunity for us to get some good quality feedback from our College community.

We would like to thank everyone who attended for joining us and for the great feedback which was received during the night. Thank you also to all our College staff who attended to support the BBQ and feedback session.
