Principal's Message

Welcome to the last newsletter of the term and welcome to the holidays.

I was asked by a staff member recently, “how did you feel that the first term had gone?”

My reply, “really well”.

In brief:

  • The 3 Hub teams have jelled and truly become teams (roles and purpose clear)
  • The support that they are able to give to the students is really quiet remarkable
  • Our Virtual classroom is a huge success (thanks so much Matt). Its been so successful, we just about need an additional class
  • We have been able to get excursions off the ground and camps are back on the schedule, thank goodness – although interstate trips are still 'dodgy'
  • Shame about the Cross Country – I know that Sam Poynton our Sports Coordinator was 'gutted' when the call to postpone was made
  • The Professional Development work with Dan Petro has been very successful
  • We have run an Year 7 Feedback session (How has the first term gone?) and BBQ. We have received fabulous endorsement of the work done, plus very practical suggestions for improvement
  • We have run a School Council election and endorsed a new School Council for 2022
  • One of the truly most impressive things is just how much the staff have given above and beyond across the last 2 weeks to keep classes running and teaching and learning at the highest quality. Given what we have been up against – A MASSIVE thank you!

So yes, over all, I am very happy with all that we have achieved in the first term of the year.

Parent and teacher conferences are critical for clear and precise communication between school and the families. I know that the bookings for tonight are full and that tomorrow is busy.

Please be sure to have the student directly involved in the conversation (whether by Webex or phone) as they are after all the topic of the conversation. 😊

ANZAC Day

Our College Captains were absolutely fantastic today, as they hosted and developed the Anzac Service program. (Yvonne did a wonderful job of supporting them.) The entire program was crafted and delivered by the College Captains.

As a guest, I thoroughly enjoyed the respectful manner of all involved and would like to particularly thank Mr Ray Rock, Vice President of the Bairnsdale RSL Sub Branch for his attendance. It seemed a little 'odd' giving the timing of Anzac Day itself, but all that drifted into the background as the students and adults recognised the outstanding contribution of all who have sacrificed so much, to enable us to enjoy the lives that we do. Thank you.

I hope you all enjoy a safe and fun packed holiday – We ALL need a break. I’m looking forward to the chance to play some regular games of golf and will try to squeeze in a trip to Adelaide to see our daughter.

Remember the first day for students is Wednesday the 27th April. Monday 25th April is Anzac Day and Tuesday 26th April is a student free day.  All staff will be participating in Professional Development and Planning for the day.

See you 'on the flip side'.

Thanks for chatting. 😊
