2E

By Kimielle D'Mello

This week the learners have been celebrating Cultural Diversity Week this week. We began the week with a celebration of cultures at a special assembly. It was fantastic to see so many GWPS learners share their talents with the wider school community, such as Indian and Sri Lankan dancing, playing of instruments, and singing in a different language. Following the assembly, 2E shared the calico pieces they designed and explored the Cultural Iceberg. Learners identified their cultural aspects that were above and below the surface, and share these with peers to make connections between different cultures. The learners were excited to share the connections they had made:

Trisha – In my family and Vidit’s family, the females wear saris.

Yug – Neeraja’s background is Sri Lankan but speaks English outside of her home, and that’s the same as me! My background is Indian, and I speak English outside of my home.

Neeraja – In both the Sri Lankan and Indian culture, the boys wear Kurtas to the temple.

Grace – Pranit and I made a connection because both our families live in India.

Aliyan – Anton taught me how to say toy car in Russian, and I taught him how to say car in Albanian.
