1/2 T

Welcome back to Term 2 we have had a fantastic start to the term, with the children all very excited to come back and see all their friends after the holidays. We hope this weekend you have a wonderful Mother's Day and enjoy Sunday with your family and children.

English

This week the students have been reading story 'Guess how much I love you' in order to prepare for our excursion to the Frankston Arts Center on Monday.

The students have focussed on the characters, events and problems in the story. Then students have compared the similarities and differences of this story to other stories such as Kissed by the Moon and Loved is like honey. Students have discussed and noticed similar characters, settings and events.

Look at their fantastic work.

Mathematics

In Maths the students have been focusing on telling the time and reading calendars. During our time unit the students have being exploring analogue and digital time for o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. Students have made connections between the analogue and digital times with a focus on the minutes. Also student have begun looking at calendar and have to read a calendar. We have focused on the days, dates and events that occur on a calendar. Students have also been practicing saying the months of the year and days of the week in order.

Look at our wonderful calendar here.

Inquiry

We have begun to focus our new topic of sustainability this term. The students have discussed what it means to be sustainable or to sustain something. We then looked at our footprint on the world and discussed what it would be to have a light footprint and being a sustainable person. We found that a lot of our rubbish goes to landfill and that this is not a suitable way to live. The students discussed what rubbish in landfill would break down and turn into compost and what rubbish wouldn't. Now we have buried some of our own rubbish from our lunch boxes to see how much it will break down over the term.
