1/2 K

1/2K is smiling every day.

Welcome back to Term 2, we have had a fantastic start to the new term. The students have come back very settled, rested and ready to learn. This term we will be focusing on sustainability and ways we can be sustainable in our school, home and world. Finally Miss Ella, Miss Vanessa and myself would like to wish you all a very happy Mother's Day for Sunday, may you all have a restful weekend and enjoy the wonderful gifts the students have create for the special people in their lives.

English

In English last week the students read the story of Anzac Ted. We focused on the importance of Anzac Day and how we can uphold the Anzac spirit as students in our school. The students enjoyed learning the qualities of the Anzacs such as bravery, courage, kindness, mateship and endurance.

The students created posted about Anzac Ted, writing an acrostic poem with his qualities, creating a medal for him and writing why they believed Anzac Ted should have been given a medal.

Just look at their fantastic work.

Mathematics

During our Maths lessons we have focussed on tell the time on analogue and digital clocks.

The students have really developed in their understanding of the hands on the clock, the numbers around the clock, as well as telling some basic times. They have been using small analogues clocks to show o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to times. Then the students have been working together in pairs to write these times in the digital form.

Why not practice telling the time at home with your child over the weekend.

Inquiry

Our topic this term is 'Tip toe through our world', where students will be looking at becoming sustainability members of our community. We have begun by focusing on our social skills such as giving eye contact, asking questions, listening to others, sharing ideas and resources, listen with our whole body and speaking clearly and calming to others.  These are important skills for the children to learn in order to achieve a common goal.

Next we looked at the 3 R's; reduce, reuse and recycle. The students have discussed that the 3R's are important so that all our waste does not end up in landfill. We then decided to bury some rubbish from our lunch boxes to see if these items were sent to landfill, if they will break down into compost or if they will just stay forever in our environment.

At the end of the term we will dig up our items and see what has happened to them.
