Prep

Welcome back to school for Term 2! As of today, the Preps have been at school for 52 days. We are halfway to our 100 days of Prep celebrations. Since returning to school, it has been wonderful to see the students connecting with their peers in the playground and enjoying the play areas together. 

Literacy 

In literacy, the Preps continue to build upon their knowledge of the sounds m, t, s, a and p. Using sound tiles, students create simple words using the sound tiles. We also practise segmenting words and clapping the syllables in words. These skills are the foundation for reading and writing. After listening to the story Thunderstorm Dancing, the students drew a picture of a thunderstorm whilst listening to the sounds of a thunderstorm. They wrote words to describe their feelings and experience of thunderstorms. 

When we returned to school after ANZAC Day, we listened to the story called ANZAC Ted. We discussed the significance of ANZAC Day and why ANZAC Ted was a memorable hero. The students participated in a guided drawing activity of ANZAC Ted. This activity encouraged the students to practise their fine motor skills, following a sequence of instructions and listening skills. 

Maths 

The students have been practising their subitising skills and using Superhero Eyes to recognise collections of dots as numbers without counting, and this is called subitising. We have been subitising in various ways such as the Great Domino Race, Domino Trains and creating Crazy Caterpillars. 

Inquiry 

Since our return to school, we have been role-playing and brainstorming the qualities of a good friend and ways of making friends. We also discussed the importance of seeking help when dealing with problems.  This week the students were introduced to the Unit of Inquiry for this term. We will be investigating and exploring different actions to sustain and take care of our environments.
