Head lice 

Just a reminder that we are heading in to head lice season, could you please check your child's hair on a regular basis.

There has been a confirmed case of measles in Melbourne.

Measles

Measles is a very contagious viral illness that causes a skin rash and fever.

It can cause serious, sometimes fatal, complications including pneumonia and encephalitis. 

Who is at risk?

Children or adults who have not received two doses of a measles-containing vaccine or do not have immunity are considered to be susceptible to measles. People who are immunocompromised or have a chronic illness and children younger than five years are at increased risk.

Incubation period

The period between exposure to the infection and the appearance of the first symptoms, is variable from seven to 18 days. Onset of fever averages 10 days from exposure, with rash appearing approximately 14 days after exposure. The infectious period of a person with measles is roughly five days before, to four days after, the appearance of the rash.

Medical Assessment

Please see the doctor at first sign of symptoms for a medical assessment.

It is vital that any confirmed case of a students diagnosed with measles is reported to the school immediately.

A student who has been diagnosed with measles should not attend school until a certificate has been issued by the doctor deeming them safe to return to school.
