Engagement and Wellbeing

Engagement and Wellbeing Report

Within the engagement and wellbeing space we continue to work to promote students’ wellbeing and health.

The Team around the Learner

This week we commenced all multidisciplinary team meetings.   Each class, both primary and secondary, is allocated a multidisciplinary team that works together around each student’s educational goals.    They work together as a team supporting students’ individual learning plans through the provision of a discipline specific expertise in a unique integrated way.  This team consists of a teacher, classroom support ES , speech pathologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, nurse, wellbeing coordinator, music therapist, e-learning coordinator, aquatics instructor and program support ES.   All multidisciplinary team meetings are held on a fortnightly basis and provide a platform for the team to discuss, review and implement new strategies to support each student to achieve their individualised learning goals.

Additional programs

Since the start of the school year, our engagement and wellbeing team have spent considerable  time planning and developing resources for additional programs such as TACPAC, Social Skills and the Life Skills programs.  TACPAC is a sensory communication program using touch and music to help students to develop communication and social skills.  Social-skills is a program that promotes interpersonal skills, emotional regulations and interaction with peers in a group setting. Life-skills is a program that focuses on developing occupational skills such as gardening, film and video making and maximising physical mobility.  All programs are offered to both primary and secondary students and are linked with the Personal and Social Capability in the Victoria Curriculum.

Partnerships with Early Years

At the end of Term 4, 2017, I delivered a presentation to Hawthorn Early Years about Belmore School and transition from Early Years to a Specialist School setting.  This resulted in a request to visit Belmore School for a tour and to meet our wonderful students and staff.   Hawthorn Early Years Educators plan to visit Belmore School in early Term 2, 2018.   During their visit , I will deliver another presentation about dual enrolment and the programs that we offer to our foundation students.

To promote Belmore School in the wider community, I am contacting all early years providers in the catchment zone of Belmore School to arrange visits to meet with their staff and parents to introduce and discuss Belmore School’s programs.   I will continue to update you on this work throughout the school year.

Belmore School and Volunteers

The Engagement and Wellbeing team will run an information session for new volunteers on Tuesday  6th March.  If you would like to attend or know of anyone who would like to volunteer at Belmore School, please contact me for more information.

NDIS

As always, we continue to support our students and their families to plan for their NDIS meetings.  We have also been working collaboratively with NDIS support coordinators to ensure that our students are able to access additional services outside the school setting.   If you would like us to support you with NDIS, please feel free to contact me.

Yours sincerely,
