Fabulous 5/6

Grade 5/6

Term 1 Week 2 2023 - Friday 10th of February 2023

Message from the Teacher:

Welcome to 2023 everyone! My name is Nick Duckett, and I am excited to be joined by Sam Boontjes, as well as Ms Katie and Ms Anna this year in the 5/6 team. We are very excited to welcome the kids back to Le Page for another year.

In the first week our year 6’s and 5’s nominated themselves for a variety of leadership roles and had to present election speeches to the school. Congratulations to all those who presented, you all did an amazing job

Sam and I both have an open-door policy when it comes to any concerns that you may have, and I look forward to working with all the parents in my class and in 5B to ensure that this year will be one the students don’t forget for all the best reasons!

 Learning intentions:

Reading: Over the next few weeks, students will be introduced to the skills they will need to be successful readers, the expectations for reading in Grade 5/6 and how to select appropriate texts. They will also work in the library and ensure they are reading every day.

Writing: In writing students will be introduced to techniques to strengthen their writing, new vocab and the structure of different text types.

Mathematics: During week 3 and 4 we will be doing some preliminary grading and testing and then we will begin to explore the value and sequence of different number patterns.

Inquiry: We will be exploring Governments and Leaders and how these vary around the world. We will be looking at what makes a good leader and how countries differ in their beliefs and systems.

What have we been up to?

Hi, our names are Scarlett and Zara. We are in 56A, and the first two weeks have been wonderful and busy. In week one, we did a big recap of the 7 Habits and the Leader in Me program. We did fun activities starring all the habits, for example, for Habit 4: Think Win-Win and Habit 6: Synergise, we played team building games like Pictionary, and had a scavenger hunt.

In week two, we started doing proper schoolwork. We learnt about Seven-Word-Stories, rounded numbers in Maths and played a game of Sardines. Miss Anna’s hiding spot was horrible! Even though we got busy, we had lots of fun.

This year, we are looking forward to interschool sports, the Big Bike Ride and getting chickens at Le Page. We also want to beautify our garden and help in the library.

We are so excited for this year!
