CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

Now, over a month has passed since the start of the new year and our time as Year 12s continues to pass by rapidly. As we enter the second half of the term, students have gotten into the thick of their initial SACs, which in turn is maintaining the connectedness and learning that continues to take place in our common room and group study rooms. While SACs keep us on our toes, we do have events such as the Formal and the House Music Festival to look forward to. These breaks away from the studies provide perfect opportunities for our grade to further develop and bond outside of the academic environment.

Recently, in preparation for our second English assessment, the senior cohort had an excursion to ACMI, where we watched the film - Sunset Boulevard, to be analysed for our SAC. The film was accompanied by an insightful presentation that delved deeper into the themes and messages it displayed, which all proved useful to better our understanding of the movie. The time in the city with friends, accompanied by the early dismissal to conclude the day, rounded off an enjoyable afternoon.

Additionally, to further improve student voice at McKinnon, a set of six new student Council members have been voted in by the cohort to assist in positively representing our grade. Joining them will be a set of Year 7 members, to help balance the representation of grade levels on the council. We look forward to seeing the positive impact the council can have on our community!

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

It has been a very successful start to the term at the East Campus with many lunchtime clubs and games starting up again as well as many activities to participate in; it’s always very exciting to watch and join in.

School events are always very exciting and especially with the very warm weather we have experienced the past two weeks, the school Swimming Carnival was long awaited. On Wednesday 1 March the McKinnon Swimming Carnival commenced to trial for the school swimming team. It was a large success with a turnout of around 130 students ranging from Years 7 to 12. I congratulate all those that participated to win points for their houses.

During the week of Monday 6 March our school will be participating in the Beach Volleyball Schools Cup. Where selected teams will compete for McKinnon to try their best and come home with the title. I wish all teams competing the best of luck.

I feel privileged to be a Junior Captain within our school and am excited for the year ahead.
