Other events for Term 1

 

Prep Welcome Drinks - Thursday, 2nd February between 7.00pm and 9.00pm

This Thursday night from 7pm to 9pm, the school is hosting a social evening for our Prep parents. This evening is a chance for the parents to get to know some of the other families from the Prep cohort. If the weather is poor, this will be held in the hall. Drinks and nibbles will be provided. 

 

Beginning of Year Mass & Staff Commissioning - Friday, 10th February at 9am

We will mark the start of the year with a Beginning of Year Mass on Friday, 10th February at 9am in the Church. Parents are invited to attend.

 

PSG Meetings - Monday, 13th, Wednesday, 15th and Friday, 17th February

PSG Meetings will take place for the families of students with a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP). Please note, if you have a PSG, you do not need to book a parent-teacher exchange also, as these meetings are in the same week. 

 

SSV Interschool Swimming Carnival - Friday, 17th February

The St Agnes’ School Swimming team will head to Oakleigh Pool to compete in various swimming events against other schools. Students need to attend both of the remaining training sessions (see above) to be part of the swimming team.

 

Years 5 and 6 Canberra Camp - Monday, 20th to Friday, 24th February

Our Years 5 and 6 students and teachers will head to Canberra for the week in Week 4. This is an amazing camp experience in the nation's capital and it supports the Civics and Citizenship curriculum. Camps are an invaluable part of school experience and I thank our staff for accompanying the children.

 

Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday- Feb 21st and 22nd

Ash Wednesday is on Wednesday, 22nd February and, this year, we will mark the beginning of Lent by coming together for a whole school paraliturgy in the Church at 9am, lead by Years 3 and 4. Parents are welcome to join us for this. We will acknowledge Shrove Tuesday the day prior, with the cooking of pancakes; we will be looking for parent helpers to make this happen. Please contact your Class Rep if you can help out.

 

Preps full time - Monday, 27th February

Our Prep students will be full time at school from Monday, 27th February, as their testing will be complete.

 

Parents’ and Friends’ Committee meeting - Tuesday, 28th February at 7.30pm

The P&F is meeting for the first time this term on Tuesday, 28th February at 7.30pm in the Staff Room. All parents are welcome to attend and we ask Class Representatives to make a special effort to be present.

 

School Advisory Council meeting - Tuesday, 7th March at 7.30pm

The first School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting will be held at school on Tuesday 7th March, commencing at 7.30pm. The SAC is an advisory body that supports the Principal and Parish Priest on matters relating to the education of the students at St Agnes'.

 

Bike Education program - Years 3 and 4

The Bike Education program is set to go ahead for our Year 3 and 4 students commencing on Tuesday, 7th March. Further details will be communicated via Operoo.

School closures

The school will be closed on Thursday, 9th and Friday, 10th March for the staff to undertake professional development. I thank you in advance for your understanding and trust you will make the most of the extra long weekend. The school will also be closed for the Labour Day Public Holiday on Monday, 13th March.

 

NAPLAN

NAPLAN testing for Years 3 and 5 will take place from Wednesday, 15th March to Friday, 17th March (Week 7). This is much earlier in the year than it has been since its inception. The children in Years 3 and 5 will be tested in Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Mathematics.

 

School photos - Tuesday, 21st March

School photos will take place on Tuesday, 21st March. Details regarding how families can order photos will be forwarded closer to the date. Children are to wear their full summer uniform on photo day and bring their runners for PE.

 

Last day of Term 1 - Thursday, 6th April

On the final day of Term 1, we will have our traditional Easter Bonnet Parade and then acknowledge the events of Holy Week, with an Easter paraliturgy. We will then move into a whole school activity day, focused on promoting positive relationships between our students. More information will be provided closer to the day. Students will finish at 1.30pm on this day.
