LEARNING AND TEACHING - Vira Pirrotta

MEGA BEACH DAY 

Today the St. Fidelis students participated in the Life-Saving Victoria’s Mega Beach day program. The program allowed our students to learn about how to keep safe around water, particularly in open water environments. 

In groups, they participated in many different activities. By engaging in these group activities, students learnt the tools to ‘be aware and be prepared. The program gave our students the tools and practices when visiting their local beaches, rivers and waterways with their families.

Today they engaged in activities that made them everyday Lifesaver. They had the opportunity to learn how to respond to an emergency and to practise survival strategies such as wearing a lifejacket and using the HUDDLE and HELP positions. They participated in rescue Strategies using various tools such as ropes, towels and bike helmets. They also learnt how to enter and exit the water safely.

It was a fantastic experience for all. If you have the opportunity, please ask the students about their day. 

Leadership Roles

Last Thursday, the Year 5 students presented their 2023 leadership speeches to the teachers, students and leadership team. It was a pleasure listening to the Year 5 students speak about what would make them excellent leaders. They were all so well prepared and spoke with confidence about themselves as leaders. They all should be very proud of the work and effort they put into their speeches. It is going to be so hard choosing our 2023 student leaders. We wish them all luck.

Reminder: SPORTS DAY this Monday Dec 12 

 All students are welcome to add a touch of colour to represent their team. 

Parent helpers are required so if you are available to assist us please arrive at the school by 9:30am.

ST JOHN FIRST AID FOR STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM

St Fidelis Primary School students will participate in the ‘St John First Aid In Schools Program’ this Friday 9 December. Each class will participate in first aid sessions during the day either in a classroom or in the hall. Each 45-minute session will be conducted by qualified St John First Aid staff.

St John Ambulance Australia is committed to promoting the importance of first aid in the community and believes that there is no better place to start than in our schools. Every child in Australia should have access to vital first aid knowledge and with the First Aid in Schools program, this is possible. The First Aid Schools Program is a FREE program run by St John Ambulance Australia providing basic first aid training to school students across all states and territories in Australia.

Year 1/2 students created Funny Robots using the WeDo coding programs. Enjoy.

Be on the lookout for our school Christmas Tree outside Woolworths in Moonee Ponds. Elizabeth and Gemma found it!

Salve a tutti! 

I hope everyone had a great weekend, enjoying some relaxation and fine weather, (bel tempo). ☀️😎

The day is fast approaching for our Giornata Italiana / Italian Day!  

As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter article, you may have noticed that the P&F committee was taking orders for an Italian lunch, that will be held during the Italian day. Unfortunately, the orders have now closed, (since Thursday last week). For those children who have ordered, you will be either having a margherita or capricciosa pizza, and/or gelato with a choice of tre gusti, (3 flavours)! 

I would like to take this opportunity to say grazie for all the people who have helped me with this year’s Italian day, including the P&F, some children’s grandparents and of course teachers. 

I hope everyone tries to make an effort to wear a costume for Italian day, even if it’s the Italian colours: verde, bianco e rosso. I plan on taking photos, which I would like to insert into next week’s newsletter.📷
