Education in Faith

Education in Faith encompasses the following areas: Religious Education, Prayer, Liturgy and Sacraments.

SECOND SUNDAY IN ADVENT

This week as a Catholic school community we celebrate the 2nd week of Advent. The second candle represents ‘peace.’ Christmas is about celebrating the arrival, the birthday of the Prince of Peace. Advent is about waiting, longing, preparing, and working towards His return.

The second week of Advent focuses on Matthew's gospel 3:1-12. As a learning community, our learners will be given the opportunity to reflect and unpack the scripture story.  We invite you to spend time with your family discussing Matthew's gospel and reflecting on how we can live out Matthew’s gospel in our daily lives. Matthew 3:1-12 - Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand.

In Matthew's gospel this week we reflect and acknowledge John the Baptist’s thinking in connection to Advent. John the Baptist focuses on telling people to make way and prepare for the peace of God in their lives.

As a catholic learning community, what are some of the ways we can get ready? What can we do to have more peace in our lives?

Throughout the gospel, John continues to talk about “repentance”, which describes a change of mind and heart. What change of mind or heart could help you walk more in God’s way of peace?

As we celebrate the second week of Advent focusing on Peace, we take the opportunity to engage in dialogue with your children reflecting on the questions asked by John the Baptist.

God,

you give us peace.

 As we light this candle

in your name,

we ask you to help us

share peace with family and friends

this Advent.

Amen

On Friday, our Foundation learners took the time and opportunity to lead our school community in prayer.  We had some very excited and a little nervous bunch of enthusiastic learners. It was great to see how beautifully they engaged and supported each other.  Well done Foundation!

Over the past few weeks, our Foundation children have been focusing on the Genesis story of creation.  As collaborators and researchers they engaged in writing special prayers about creation which they took great pride in sharing with the St Fidelis' learning community.

On Tuesday 5/6OS and 3/4BP will be attending mass.  We ask all parents and carers to attend mass.  This is the final class mass for 2022.

Graduation Mass

On Saturday the 10th of December at 4.00 pm, we will be celebrating the Year 6 Graduation Mass. All students are to wear their full school uniform.

At the end of mass, the students and families will gather in the hall to continue celebrating our students' achievements throughout the year.

Have a great week,

Annette Gasbarro
