Student Leadership
Congratulations to our 2021 Student Leaders.
On Monday morning we held our Student Leadership Assembly, where all student leaders were presented with their badge. It was lovely to have the opportunity and facilities for our parents to finally attend the assembly.
We also thank Michael O’Brien (MLA for Malvern) for joining us at the assembly.
These positions provide opportunities for the students to contribute to the life of and decisions at the school, we thank them all for their service. We also thank all the students who nominated for the positions and showing their commitment to our school community.

NAPLAN Tests
NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students have already been learning through the school curriculum. Teachers have been working with student to ensure they are familiar with the test formats and will provide appropriate support and guidance during the tests.
Please help your child prepare for NAPLAN by reassuring them that NAPLAN tests are just one part of their school program, and reminding them on the day to simply try their best.
As is the case on any school day it is great if you can ensure your child has plenty of sleep, a healthy breakfast and a calm morning routine.
Malvern Primary School students are completing all tests on paper.
Test Schedule:
Tuesday 11 May - Language Conventions (Before recess) and Writing (Between recess and lunch)
Wednesday 12 May - Reading (Before recess)
Thursday 13 May - Numeracy (Before recess)
Parents are asked to ensure their child is at school on time for their NAPLAN tests on these days to reduce the stress on their child and the disruption to the rest of the students sitting the test.
Parents will be sent their child’s individual results in August this year.
For more information about the tests, please speak to your child’s teacher or visit the VCAA website at www.vcaa.vic.edu.au or the NAP website at www.nap.edu.au.
How is the NAPLAN Data Used?
Although NAPLAN is a test completed only by students in Years 3 and 5, it provides us insight in to the programs across the school and is therefore relevant and important to the whole school.
As a staff we use the NAPLAN results to identify the strengths of our curriculum programs and also to identify areas for future development. Staff look closely at the data - question by question, growth data and data that can identify the difference in the performance of different cohorts of students (eg boys compared to girls). Our Level Teams and Professional Learning Teams then use what we have learnt to refine and improve the curriculum provided to our students.
