St Patrick’s College Winter Appeal

It is almost winter once again, and as the days get shorter and the nights get colder, we must remember what our College represents and help those who do not have a place to sleep this winter.  We are so fortunate to have a home to go to and hopefully warmth through blankets, as well as food and hygiene.  To help those who are sleeping rough and to show them the dignity they deserve through our love and care, we will be holding our Annual SPC Winter Appeal this Friday 14 May.

It would be greatly appreciated if every student brings the following:

  • A blanket or sleeping bag (the simple ones from Kmart and the like are great or the blankets/sleeping bags can be used ones if they have been cleaned)
  • A toiletry item (all small in size so they are easy to carry when on the streets) allocated by House below.

            BERG                     deodorant (mostly men’s)

            COGHLAN           toothbrushes x 2

            CRICHTON          toothpaste

HANRAHAN        small liquid body soap (NO pump packs)

HICKEY                 travel size shampoo (and conditioner)

            RICE                       small moisturizer

Optional extras for people to donate are: new beanie, scarf, socks, underwear (in packet), men’s singletsPlease do not bring any clothes.

All items will be collected in homeroom and should be brand new. As a community, we are all extremely lucky to even have a bed to sleep in every night and to have access to basic toiletry items such as toothpaste and soap. As people in this privileged position, our generosity is vital to help those who cannot afford these luxuries; again, that is what our College is all about.

This was recently sent to me by a member of staff.  I think it is a good reminder for all 😊

"Stay where you are. Find your own Calcutta. Find the sick, the suffering and the lonely right there where you are — in your own homes and in your own families, in your workplaces and in your schools. You can find Calcutta all over the world, if you have the eyes to see. Everywhere, wherever you go, you find people who are unwanted, unloved, uncared for, just rejected by society — completely forgotten, completely left alone.” -

Blessed Mother Teresa

I know it does not seem long since the Lenten Appeal but it is almost winter and so we need to look to those most affected at this time.  There are four times in a year when the College seeks your support in fundraising/collections for our Justice Partners – The Lenten Appeal, The Winter Appeal, The Christmas Appeal, and each year group's Justice Partnership Program.  Currently, Year 11 are also collecting for their Justice Partners (due on 26 May), so we really need both.

We are a College built on service and giving to those who live on the margins (in any way).  If you are ever in need, please let us know.  We never want anybody to feel worried when we collect for others – just let me know confidentially if you have a concern.

Thank you all in advance for your generosity.  I know we will all rise to the occasion!
