Year 12, 2021

Let's get to know our Year 12 cohort before they leave all too soon.

Our Year 12's have had a busy Term, with the scare of the circuit breaker making many appreciate being able to be in the classroom in person with their teachers.

Every year our Year 12 cohorts uphold the traditions of the past when it comes to dress up days and it seems 2021 is no different.  There were many giggles trying to figure out who was who at the recent uniform swap day.  We look forward to Retro Day and Dress like a Teacher Day next term.

Year 12 - Getting to know you.....

We love to ask for feedback and our 12's have given theirs whilst reflecting on their time, some are deep, some not so deep, but it's their genuine opinion and that's what we asked for.

All time favourite thing from the Canteen: Glee's! They were the cutest little cans and there were blue ones and pink ones - blue were the best. They were a $1 buy at the canteen - what a bargain! Over year 7 (and maybe year 8) they were very popular in summer.

Think of your favourite teacher.  What was it about them that made you feel that way? (optional to name them)  Miss Jane Cogger - Coggs for short - sits very high on my favourite teacher list. A PE teacher who didn't take any nonsense from anyone. Coggs always had a joke on hand and back chatted any smart alec that tried her.   Not only did she keep the class under control, she also made sure our learning was always fun and was always there to listen if you ever needed someone to talk to. What a woman.

Can you remember what you wanted to be when you grew up when you were little?  My childhood dream career was to be a vet. Ever since I was little I have always had a fascination with all critters big or small, farm animals, domestic, wild, you get the gist.  My cousins have had rabbits and guinea pigs, grandparents had a cat, and friends had horses and goats. I visited my grandparents after their cat passed away and had an allergic reaction to cat fur in the carpet. Then when I visited my cousins, I reacted to the fur of their pets. Rode a pony at a friends, you guessed it - I reacted.  My childhood dreams had been crushed, being a vet was going to be hard if you were allergic to most furred domestic animals. Shattered by a hair follicle.

What do you want to do when you leave school? Travelling the world has been a dream of mine since as long as I can remember. With no long term career in mind, I would love to work in hospitality on my travels, to meet new people and see the beautiful world around me.

Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why/how?  My entire family has been very influential of the person I have become today. I come from a family of many opinions and very different perspectives on things. Living among the different views and beliefs has allowed me to grow and learn as a person, as well as teaching me that all opinions are valid opinions - you don't have to agree with everyone, you just have to accept that they may think differently than you.

You find a lamp on a beach, out pops a genie, you only get 1 wish, what is yours? I wish good health upon all of the people who ever had an impression on me over the course of my life, that they live a long life of good health and fortune.  Money can buy  you anything you want, but money can't buy health. To be healthy is to be wealthy.

Funniest memory at school?   I think my favourite school memory would have to be one day in PE we were doing over and under relays - with a twist. Instead of just passing the ball over and under someone laid on the ground and the team shuffled over them. This time it was me laying on the floor - face up, and something went wrong in the line of people. Classmates falling over, trying their best to avoid the body on the floor, and then there was Olivia - who slipped and landing straight on my face. People were rushing to my side to see if I was okay and we were both in hysterics!

What is something positive Baimbridge has taught you?  Take the time to get to know someone before you make a judgement about them. Although Baimbridge hasn't got the nicest facilities it doesn't mean that reflects the people you see within the school. Be accepting, everyone deserves to be treated as an equal.

What advice do you have for future year 12's?  The last year of school, the shortest one yet but also the busiest. Take advantage of the time you have here with friends, don't ruin it with drama and fighting. Make the most of this year as it could be the very last memories you make with the people around you, enjoy the company of friends, and HAVE FUN!!

What do you want to do when you leave school? Once I leave school I wanna have fun with my mates and earn some money along the way. Just trying to make it out of da hood with da boiz.

Year you started at Baimbridge:  Year 7

All time favourite thing from the Canteen: Choccy milk

What are you listening to right now?  Rock/‘emo’ music

Think of your favourite teacher.  What was it about them that made you feel that way? (optional to name them) They worked with me when I needed them, they picked up on when I was struggling and they came to me without me having to reach out first, which helped me to get back on track that year, helping me improve drastically, keeping me in school, I nearly dropped out that year.

Can you remember what you wanted to be when you grew up when you were little?  When I was LITTLE I wanted to do something with water, but as I went through primary school I changed to wanting to do something more, online, I went through a YouTube phase and acting phase

What do you want to do when you leave school?  A musician! I’ve always wanted to be known, which is strange, but I went from YouTube to acting, to streaming, finally to a musician, I’ve always had that dream of making it ‘big’.

Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why/how?  My friends and family, by supporting me with whatever I wanted to do, but a big influence was a couple of bands I listened to, 5 Seconds of summer were a huge inspiration to me as I grew up listening to them, and watched them grow. These days Palaye royale have inspired me immensely, seeing their past and how far they’ve come is something so inspiring to me, they’re such kind and lovely people and I cant thank them enough for everything

You find a lamp on a beach, out pops a genie, you only get 1 wish, what is yours?  It’s a common answer, but I’d say world peace. Seeing the kind of things that’s going on in the world every single day gets really draining, it would be a lovely change.

Funniest memory at school?  Either getting sent out of a class for laughing, and then continuing to laugh uncontrollably all the way down the hall to time out, or sliding along the hockey fields when it would rain, and end up slipping over and getting soaked, to then having to complete the school after it.

What is something positive Baimbridge has taught you?  That you can do anything, really, anything’s possible if you work for it

What advice do you have for future year 12's?  Don’t stress, as horrible as that is, there really is no reason to stress, take each day as it comes and try not to worry about the future.
