Victorian State School Spectacular

Congratulations to Heidi Graupner (one of 2 clarinettists) and Erin Allison (sole oboist) for their wonderful performances in the Orchestra as part of the Victorian State School Spectacular on Saturday 10 September.

The extravaganza involving music, dance, giant puppetry, skating, acrobatic and circus acts featured 3000 students from more than 200 government schools, and we are so proud to have such talented musicians represent Lilydale High on the State-wide stage.

The televised performance will be screened later in the year.

Day of Woodwind – Monash University

Oboist, Erin Allison recently participated in Monash University’s ‘Day of Woodwind’.

Erin said “The Day of Woodwind at Monash was absolutely phenomenal. There were a range of opportunities, and I had the chance to attend an oboe masterclass with Anne Gilby and an audition masterclass with Nicole Canham, as well as participate in the massed wind band directed by Lachlan Davidson.

Throughout the day, I learnt a lot about oboe specific nuances for playing in the practice room and during performances as well as different techniques I can use as an oboist to allow my instrument to sing in any location.”

Conducting 101 Workshop

Dr. Mathers, one of the most experienced conductors and educators in Victoria, in conjunction with The Australian Band and Orchestra Directors' Association (ABODA), ran a conducting workshop late last month and Year 12 student, Heidi Graupner was very lucky to be able to attend this.

The workshop explored the fundamentals of conducting including beat patterns, cueing and musical communication through gesture. Heidi said it was a great experience.
