FAITH MATTERS

MS MICHELLE HAEUSLER - PRINCIPAL

Today, 1st September, is the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation and begins the Season of Creation. The Season of Creation runs until 4th October, ending on the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi. The theme for the Season of Creation in 2022 is “Listen to the voice of creation”.

His Holiness, Pope Francis wrote in his message on 22nd July that “It (the Season of Creation) is a special time for all Christians to pray and work together to care for our common home”. He writes about the wonders of creation and invites us to “revel” in the wonders of creation and enjoy the world around us. Pope Francis also writes about the “tragedy” and “anguish” that the earth is suffering due to our lack of care, and that the poor are struggling with the impact of climate change, with droughts, floods, heat waves and other climate changes affecting the poorest countries and people the most.

Pope Francis asks us to change our ways for our children and future generations and asks us to pray for the discussions and outcomes of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP27 (November 2022), to provide a positive future for all of creation.

“Most High, all-powerful, all-good Lord,

all praise is yours, all glory, honour and blessings.

To you alone, Most High, do they belong.” (St Francis of Assisi)

“Let us sing as we go.

May our struggles and our concern for this planet

never take away the joy of our hope.” (Pope Francis, Laudato Si’)

Creator God we praise your world

and look with awe on all that is.

May we commit to heal the earth

and share your gifts in faith and trust.

Brother Francis, in purity of heart

you gazed upon the world with love.

We ask you joyfully to intercede for us,

As guardians of our common home.

St Francis, pray for us.
