Respectful Relationships, TOPIC 8: Positive Gender Relations
EXAMPLE LESSONS
Further to our last newsletter, please see below for some example lessons from the mandated RRR Curriculum for Topic 8, currently being explored across our school.
Upon reflecting on our learnings about Topic 7 and 8 this term, our staff noted:
- The content was very age appropriate
- Junior year levels were focussed on positive friendship building; Senior year levels were more about introducing language
- The curriculum was not as confronting as we anticipated (We were putting an adult lens on the topic)
- The children responded positively and compassionately - and are extremely open and comfortable about discussing gender
- Two years of professional development around these topics has supported staff to confidently follow the lesson structure and adjust/modify based on student needs.
