Science

Taught through Investigation Time

This term our Inquiry unit is called Being Green on the Blue Planet and focuses on sustainability.

The classrooms have specific investigation areas that link to the Science concepts we will be teaching based on this unit of learning. These include a farm yard, jungle exploration, mini beasts, a weather station, water play areas, ocean discovery and a recycling centre.

Each classroom will also have other areas set up that specifically target Literacy and Numeracy skills or other special interests amongst the students.

The children will explore content that answer the following questions.

  • How can I use my senses to help me be aware of what is going on in my environment?
  • What do living things need to survive?
  • What features make an environment liveable?
  • How can I look after our environment?

Towards the end of this unit of learning the students will plant their own seedlings. They will be required to write some care instructions and monitor their growth when they have different living conditions.
