August Minutes

Kentucky P & C Meeting                                                                                               10/08/22

Open at 7:18 pm

Apologies Kath Caddy

Present - Charlie Street, Will Taylor, Kahla Chaffy, Lou Baker, Brett Wilkinson, Pip Taylor and Craig Zirkler

Charlie read and tabled minutes from previous meeting– Craig moved Will seconded.

Business arising from previous meeting

Pavers – very wet – could possibly get stared with storm water plumbing preparation and cutting in/setting school emblem pavers.

Craig has purchased fibre glass kit to repair slippery slide and will do. Craig to perform initial test.

Play pallets – Kahla assessing safety and is riding out the wave of new sand pit excitement. Look at pallet play later.

School food – soup could be incorporated in the last of winter. Fruit going well

Sheds – bus access to current shed restricted due to bogging risk – bus parked on Dorley Lane. Will to email council to ask for drainage improvement off Dorley Lane. Addressed shed storm water pipes not plumbed to run away. Bus could be housed in a new shed solely for bus, closer to Dorley Lane. This would free up a shed bay. Quote for shed or materials only and self-build.

Music Room – Going away when wet access improves – wet outlook means this will not happen soon. Opportunities outlined to reassess buildings non-use – it’s not going anywhere for months so why not use it while it’s there. If the department sees the school needs it they might be more likely to replace it. Kahla outlined that space may become tight when Cindy returns and needs technology space, with merimbas in class room. This is when another building would benefit the school.

Pine forest excavator clean up – Kahla to see if funds still exist to pay for excavator to work, when possible – too wet. Available funds to be reported due to increases in excavator hire costs.

School Bikes – OK – thanks to Mr Gorry. Kahla to investigate if kids could ride down Dorley Lane as a play option with boggy school grounds. Signs to alert traffic.

Correspondence

Will was contacted by the Uralla Co-Op and the P&C should receive $800 as a donation.

An ongoing system for crediting the P and C’s bank account from the Regional Aust Bank $996.62

                                                Uralla co-op                                                                        $800

KPS’s half of sand cost                                                    $2,147

Projected Closing Balance                                             $11,391 plus bulbs

Will outlined that an insurance invoice is outstanding and asked if the P and C saw a need for the insurance. Kahla will ask Danny if the merimbas need to be insured. It was noted that a till insurance of $5,000 was excessive for our P and C.

Will noted that the public liability policies, committee litigation insurance and P and C memberships are paid.

General Business

Fiona Uren could drop in for a hello around 26 August. Back to New England in November for possible farewell, with Danny included.

Rugby Gala – A successful day, however it was noted that some children didn’t have the funds to purchase what they wanted. It was noted that the prices could have been excessive ($2/ slice, $3/ poppa drink & $5/single sausage, cost estimate of $1/ bread and sausage), however also noted that hyperinflation is taking its toll on the purchasing costs for catering. It was noted that, as it was a children only event the P and C could conduct due diligence as to letting some kids eat more or reduce the prices or have a pre-paid plan with all children allocated the same sized helping. It was noted that the P and C was somewhat in the dark on the job and were offered the catering job as a fund raising opportunity.

Left over sausages were sold to interested school family’s and slices were sent to the school for the children to purchase next day at school. It was noted that the kids enjoyed the feast.

Excursion funding – Kahla outlined the costs of Thalgarra - $78 and a future excursion to the Aborigional Keeping Place - $277.20 the P and C decided to fund these excursions.

Bus battery’s – Brett said the bus battery’s are not lasting more than 4 weeks – possible trip to an auto electrician or mechanic to investigate battery life.

Tree planting – Armidale Tree group tree give away. If trees exist they could be planted around bare school grounds as pine forest needs more heavy machinery in and that would kill new trees.

Landcare grants for more trees ?

New Principle – P and C asked as to what they want. Small school experience, Extra Curricular motivation, music program, bus licence, involved in male sports (rugby).
