Year 11 Mt Stirling Ski Camp

Cross-Country Ski Camp to Mount Stirling

The year 11 Outdoor and Environmental Studies Unit 2 class went to Mt Stirling in week 6 to learn some cross-country skiing and experience camping in the snow!

The forecast was for a wet camp but this didn't daunt the year 11 OES class with the group exploring the farm stay despite all the mud and donning the skis to explore the beautiful Mt Stirling environment.

Many of you may remember the original move "The Man from Snowy River" which was filmed in this location (although not in winter!). The vistas of snow gums with their beautiful white trunks, hiding the mountain pygmy possums winter sleeping habitat and the call of the Currawongs and native antechinus (bush rats) were the topics of the curriculum.

Conversations surrounded the 'stacks' and 'face plants' on the trails, drying the wet gear in the dining tent with the log fire and how hungry the class was after a day of skiing and exploration.

Thanks especially to Mr Dangerfield, Ms Toone and Ms Higginson for coming on camp as our leaders and providing a fun learning environment!!

The students have made some great video clips of their adventures but see the photos above for a sample of the wonderful time we spent on camp.

Well done all students for bringing such positive attitudes to camp with you - it was a pleasure to adventure with you outdoors.
