We acknowledge and pay respect to the traditional custodians,
past and present of this land of the Anaiwan, Banbai, Dunghutti,
Jukambal, Kambuwal, Weraerai, Kamilaroi, Ngoorabul and Gumbaynggirr as acknowledged by Armidale Lands Council, people who long before us lived,
loved and raised their children on this land.
We also acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
in our community and acknowledge their deep physical
and spiritual connections to the land.
Yaama gaba Nginda, also meaning Hello hope you are good!
Over the past few weeks, I have been undertaking my cert 1 in fundamental Aboriginal Language of the Gamilaraay/Yuwaalaraay/Yuwaalayaay languages to share with our children here at school. Over the coming weeks/months the Children will learn their names in Gamilaraay, body parts and numbers, they will also learn songs and phrases in Language.
I believe it is fundamental for our children to learn the language of the country we live on to continue to bridge the gap and expand their minds and make stronger community connections.
To prevent our languages becoming extinct, it is up to us to learn and impart our knowledge to our future generations.
