Positive impact of Learning the Arts!

Over the past few weeks, students have been practising for our upcoming concert. This is a time when students can apply the skills they are learning in Literacy, Mathematics, Phys Ed and many other curriculum areas. This year our concert has been student led and designed with students choosing the theme, storyline, music, props and costumes. It has been a joy supporting our seniors to build this performance and allow all of them to shine in different areas.

A growing body of Australian and international research demonstrates the enormous positive impacts that participating in The Arts can have on students’ academic and non-academic success. Positive effects of young people involved in arts-rich education programs include achievements in reading, language and mathematics development, increased higher-order thinking skills and capacities, increased motivation to learn, and improvements in effective social behaviours. Over and above the obvious development of individual creativity and self-expression, school-based arts participation can increase learners’ confidence and motivation, thereby improving school attendance rates, academic outcomes and the well-being and life skills of students.

While it can sometimes push students out of their comfort zone it is important for all students to participate in performing arts opportunities to help build their resilience and confidence. On November 9th all of our students will perform at George Jenkins Theatre. Leading up to this event it is important to let children know that it is normal to feel nervous or worried about a new experience, but it is important to have a go so they can enjoy the success that comes with achieving something new. We look forward to seeing you all on the night for an amazing performance by our students!
