Year 10 Formal

On Friday 14 October, the Year 10 students had the amazing opportunity of attending Year 10 Formal at Functions by the Bay in Frankston.  It was an extremely fun night filled with a lot of music and dancing.  It was so fun getting to celebrate our year and to dress up with our masquerade and red-carpet theme.  It was amazing getting to dance and even see some of the teachers dancing on the dance floor.  It was a memorable night!

Thank you to Mrs Leanne Wood for her attention to detail in planning the logistics for the evening to ensure things ran like clockwork.  Thank you to Ms Samantha Cody and Ms Libby Toovey for their leadership, promoting student connectedness and enhancing student voice by coordinating the student led formal working party.  Thank you to Ms Paige Jessulat and Mr Aaron Elias who were a phenomenal support to the Year 10 team. Thank you to Blake Alford-Ryan (Year 9) and Mr Adam Martin for taking photos on the night and to all the staff who also attended.  Thank you to all staff who attended the night and showed off their dance moves, the kids loved having you there!

Middle School Exams

During Week 8 of this term, Years 9 and 10 students will have their important end of year examinations for English, Mathematics and Science.  Exams will run on Wednesday 23 November and Thursday 24 November. Exam catch up day is scheduled for Friday 25 November for any student who misses a scheduled exam due to illness (absence supported by a medical certificate).

To support students with preparing for their examinations, we are trialling students attend for their examination only across these two days. This means students are only required to attend when they have a scheduled exam (according to their Compass schedules).

Students’ attendance will be mark for their examinations. For special circumstances where a student needs to be at school for the entire school day, they can sign up for a supervised study room with their Year Level Coordinators. Students will be required to sign up by Friday 28 October to ensure we appropriately staff the supervision rooms.

In the lead up to examinations, the Sub School and Curriculum Team will host examination preparation workshops with Year 9 and 10 students.

Special Examination Arrangements (due to medical reasons or diagnosed learning disorders) are now closed. Please contact Ms Samantha Cody or Ms Libby Toovey (Year 10) or Mr Aaron Elias or Ms Paige Jessulat (Year 9) for any special circumstances.

Examination results will be published on students’ reports.

Compulsory Early Commencement Program

  • Current Year 10 students: Monday 28 November to Friday 2 December
  • Current Year 9 students: Monday 28 November to Monday 12th December During this time students will start important learning for their new 2023 subjects.

Year 10 Attendance - maintain 85% attendance!

During Term 4, for students last semester on the 7-10 Campus, we are encouraging students to maintain high expectations for their attendance and commitment to their studies.  Research consistently shows how important 90% attendance is in supporting students to thrive socially, emotionally and academically.

In order to be eligible to automatically transition from Year 10 into Year 11 VCE in 2023, one condition is that students maintain 85% attendance (VCE% column on Compass) in all Year 10 Term 4 subjects. The Year 10 Team visited classes during Weeks 1 and 2 of Term 4 to show students how they can check their attendance on Compass.  They are also sending weekly reminders to students who need to focus on improving their attendance.

Exemptions will be provided by the Year 10 Team to students with extenuating circumstances.

If students miss more than two consecutive days due to illness, please collect a medical certificate (or statutory declaration) and return this to the school.  This will be marked as a VCE approved absence and will not impact the VCE % column.

If students without exemptions do not meet the requirements of the attendance goal, they will be provided the ability to redeem their attendance by engaging in one or more of the study sessions facilitated by the Year 10 Team after school on 9, 10, 15 and 17 November. Further, if 85% attendance is not achieved during the redemption opportunities prior to exams, students will be required to attend in the week following Early Commencement until their attendance has been redeemed.

Absence Learning Plan (Year 7 – 11)

Frankston High School does not support the scheduling of absences during the school day and/or school term, including routine medical and dental appointments and family holidays, where these may be arranged for holiday periods.

At Frankston High School all applications for an extended absence (3 days or more) must be made, in writing, at least 4 weeks before the absence. The application must be addressed to the relevant Year Level Coordinator who will, in conjunction with the Principal and/or Campus Principal, determine if the absence is approved.

If the absence is approved an email will be sent to the parent/carer and an Absence Learning Plan will be developed (which the student is to collect from the Year Level Coordinator). The student is to take the Absence Learning Plan to all of their teachers so they can provide a list of work that needs to be completed before returning to school after the absence. The student is to show this plan to the Year Level Coordinator before leaving for the extended absence. The Year Level Coordinator will then inform the Attendance Officer of the approval. At this point the Attendance Officer will mark the absence as approved. If the absence is not approved parents/carers will be notified in writing by the Year Level Coordinators or Campus Principal.

Year 10 Focus Group

Recently, myself and other Year 10 students have taken part in a focus group oriented on contributing towards student voice and agency at Frankston High School. During these sessions we have been addressing the areas for growth within the school and identifying ways in which to amplify the student body’s role in change. We have brainstormed many ideas on how to enhance teacher-student relationships, student engagement and how to improve the school for the future. Over the past few sessions we have been exploring different activities that we could run during Term 4. The aim is to continue to strengthen the positive relationships between students and their teachers and to improve student connectedness. While our plans are still in the early stages of development, they are sure to appeal to everyone whatever your interests are. Keep an eye out over the following weeks as more news will be revealed surrounding these interactive activities.
