Casual Dress Day

In Term 3, the SLC Events and New Members Team led the Casual Dress Day. With the support of the student body, we raised an amazing $1969.55 for Autism Awareness Australia. It was through the hard efforts of everyone involved that we were able to raise so much for the cause and hopefully our hard efforts can help make the lives of those with autism easier as well as help spread awareness.

On the day we ran a multitude of events, ranging from table tennis on the Senior Campus as well as many amazing musical performances led and performed by the talented students of Frankston High School.  On the 7-10 Campus we ran a bake sale which raised a massive $250. A big thank you to all the students who both sold and baked, as well as a huge thanks to the Sports Leadership Team who were involved in running dodgeball as well. All together the day was a big success.

National Titration Competition

Fifteen of our VCE Chemistry students participated as five teams in the National Titration Competition – where they applied their skills to real world chemistry, those students were:

Nigel Mathew, Leith Murray, Natalia Glebova, Olli Sawaya, Harriet Muhlnickel, Ryan Zanders, Laura Youssef, Grey Wang, Sam Fujii, Janet Mary Kuncheria, Tessa Anish, Lis Maria Jobi, Jackson Barratt, Daniel Lazzarotto and Paddy Colgan.

Student quotes about the titration competition:

“I had a blast participating in the Titration Competition. Being a part of it was an engaging way to extend our chemistry knowledge and get a taste of scientific opportunities after graduation.” – Leith Murray

“The competition itself was surprisingly enjoyable because we were surrounded by like-minded people, all trying our best to focus super hard while also munching on cheezels.” _ Natalia Glebova

“I enjoyed doing the titration competition, It was really fun and I had a laugh with the rest of the people that where there, it made my day! The most important thing that I am taking away from the competition, is that I learnt to be more patient.” Laura Youssef

“I was so afraid that I was going to get a negative reading and I had so much fun to stop at nothing to avoid them.” Grey Wang

RELAY FOR LIFE

What an incredible night raising a total of $14,636 for the Cancer Council.  A huge well done to our sports leaders and SLC students and a very big thank you to all staff who made tonight possible.

This was the first year we have held our own RFL event and our team were brilliant working together for this great cause.

Thank you to Elspeth from the Cancer Council who was our guest speaker and reminded our students why we relay and where this huge amount of funds will go.

Our students completed multiple laps of the oval and stadium, were involved in an opening and closing ceremony as well as a candlelight ceremony, team trivia, dodgeball, tug of war and lip sync battles.  We are so proud of you all!

R U OK? Day

R U OK? Day was held on Thursday 8 September.  R U OK? Day is our national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that every day is the day to ask, “Are you OK?” and support those struggling with life’s ups and downs.

R U OK? Day also coincides with the Body Kind in Schools Campaign, which is designed to support students to strengthen body positivity and self-esteem.

The SLC Wellbeing team put together resources that teachers used in classes.  The resources were designed to support teachers to engage students in conversations that reflect the four stages of the ‘R U OK’ conversation:

  1. Asking R U OK
  2. Listen
  3. Encourage Action
  4. Check in.

Inclusion First Nation Morning Teas

On Tuesday 11 October, our Inclusion Team organised and ran two wonderful events for our Indigenous students aimed at enhancing their connection with each other, to our school, and the community.  These events were attended by our Koorie Engagement Support Officer, Mr Alan Johnson, along with the Principal Team, Sub School Teams and Inclusion Team.

Thank you and well done to Ms Heidi Dhiman and Ms Anna Welsh for organising these opportunities for our students and staff.
