Celebrating Girton’s Teachers

October is the month that the world celebrates the teaching profession -  October 5th was International World Teachers' Day and October 28th is Australia’s National Teachers' Day.

More than ever, Australian teachers have shown great resilience in facing the many challenges of the past few years, all so they can give Australian students the best future possible.

In Week Three of this Term, Girton Community Action Group (GCAG) has organised a celebration of the many wonderful teaching staff at Girton. This is an opportunity for students, parents and community members to say thank you to a teacher they believe has made a difference in their lives – no matter how big or how small.

GCAG members have organised a special assembly presentation on Wednesday 19th October to celebrate our teachers. We will also be distributing “Thank you” slips in House Tutor groups if students would like to write a note to a teacher. These notes will be collected in a box at Morey Reception and handed out to the relevant teachers during Week Four.

There is also a form on ASTRA that students, parents, past students and community members can use to express their appreciation. Please use this link https://astra.girton.vic.edu.au/survey/intro/3769 or the button on Parent Services on ASTRA to participate.

Mental Health Week Soccer Match and BBQ

Sadly, our planned R U OK? Day Soccer Match was rained out last Term but the exciting news is that we will be hosting a Staff versus Year Eleven students Soccer Match on Thursday 27th October during Girton’s Mental Health Week. We look forward to celebrating with our School community on the day and a BBQ lunch will be available – sausages in bread will be $2 each.

All money raised on the day will be donated to the R U OK? Foundation, whose vision is a world where we're all connected and protected from suicide. The R U OK? mission is to inspire and empower people to meaningfully connect with those in their world and lend support when they are struggling with life. By inspiring people to take the time to genuinely ask, 'are you OK?' and listen, we can help people struggling with life to feel connected long before they are in crisis.
