Introducing Humanities Help

What is Humanities Help?

Every Thursday at lunchtime during Term Four, students will have the opportunity to come along to a specialised help session for Humanities-based subjects including: History, Geography, Philosophy, Sociology, Politics and RSE.

Who should attend Humanities Help?

Humanities Help is for any student at any time who would like extra support with Humanities subjects – you might be struggling with your work and want to nail down the basics, or you might be aiming for Dux and want to find out what you need to excel in your assessments. Improving general Humanities skills, including analysis, evaluation, writing, communication, problem-solving and critical and creative thinking, should benefit learning in all subjects.

Humanities Help is open to all Year Seven to Year Twelve students. Each session will be staffed by at least two Humanities teachers (the roster is shown below and will also be published weekly on the ASTRA News).

What will we do in Humanities Help?

Humanities Help is where students can access extra help with skills or concepts they are challenged by, come to complete homework, get assistance with assessment tasks or research assignments, or just come along to do some of your own special projects in the Humanities field.

Each session will be different, depending on which students attend and what help they need. Sometimes there will be a teacher-led short session on a particular skill, such as:

  • source analysis for History,
  • PQE in Geography,
  • intext referencing and correct Bibliography citations,

Towards the end of the Semester, we will be focusing on study skills in the lead-up to the examination period. Sometimes you might come along for a conversation or debate about historical matters, current affairs, the state of the planet, global politics, or the latest theories on gender, class and power.

The Humanities teachers at Girton are passionate about what they teach – and we love seeing young people enthused about the physical and social world around them. Ultimately, we want to ignite your passion for Humanities, but at the very least, we want to give you the opportunity to achieve your best.

So come along to Humanities Help!
