Swimming Recount

On Friday the 7th of October the Year 6’s went on a bus to Aquarena, for a Swimming and Water Safety Day, that also ended in some fun pool time. We did and learnt many things throughout the day, and here the School Captains will share their experiences with you.

Isobel -

I had a great time on the swimming day. At the beginning of the day we were put into groups of around ten people, and we went with our instructors to separate lanes. We were learning and practising swimming strokes like Freestyle, Backstroke, Torpedo, Teddy-Bear, and Soldier. After a while we did some safety things that you do when in problems when swimming. We learnt how to be safe in lifejackets, and what to do when wearing lifejackets. We also were throwing ropes out to people in our group, and it was really funny when the rope broke when I threw it out to my peers. At the end of the day we went on a huge inflatable thing that we took turns going on, and then we did some pool volleyball. Overall I had a great day, I and really enjoyed swimming with my friends.

Joshua –

At Aquarena, the first half of the day we learnt about water safety, and how to be safe in scenario cases such as a sinking boat or being stranded out in the sea without a boat. We also learnt D.R.S.A.B.C. which stands for Danger, Response, Send help, Airways, Breathe and CPR. We also learnt what a defibrillator does and how you can use it. I had fun practicing throwing out ropes, swimming boards and pool noodles to classmates who  were pretending to drown in the water, even though I took quite a while doing that.

Lexie -

Last Friday, Level 6 went to Aquarena to learn about swimming and water safety. We were put into groups and began to swim. It was a great experience and we all learnt a lot. We learnt what to do in case of an emergency and how to rescue someone if they need to be saved. My favourite part was when we went on the inflatables towards the end and had buckets of water thrown at us. It was a great bonding opportunity and a great way to be educated. Mrs. Papanastasiou and Mr. Johnson even joined in on the fun by having a Teacher Vs. Students swimming race, which was extremely riveting and got everyone in a productive mood.

Weihan -

Last Friday, the Year Sixes went to a swimming day where we learnt about water safety and how to stay safe in the water. The instructors were all extremely kind and taught us everything that we needed to know about water safety. In the end, we all played some games and we all enjoyed ourselves. It was an energetic day and we were all exhausted and had a well-deserved rest back at school. We were all well informed about water safety by the end of the lesson.

I would like to say thank you to Miss Epskamp for organising the great day, on behalf of all of the Year 6's. We also owe the Year 6 teachers Mrs Corfios, Mr Johnson and Miss P a big thank you for coming with us and supervising us during the day.
