Acting Principal's Message

Diverse ~ Accepting ~ Inclusive Community

Dear Parents, Families and Friends,

Thank you to every parent/guardian/carer who attended the session on Wednesday night hosted by Melinda Tankard Reist and Daniel Principe. It’s so important that we have a unified message to students regarding how to navigate the harmful messages that they are constantly exposed to in social media. I’m grateful to have an engaged community that is concerned and invested in our students’ wellbeing.

Our final week of the term has concluded, and I’ve been reflecting on the many events and activities that make up the culture of St Philip’s College. From our Outdoor Education programs of Endeavour, Wollangarra and Mittagundi at the beginning of the term to the smooth transition of student leaders midway through, and our sending off a Round Square delegation to the UK for an International Conference this week; we offered numerous activities for students to grow and develop into global citizens.

The Performing Arts department went from strength to strength and the musical this year, Matilda Jr, was a highlight for the audience. The depth of talent in our student body is carefully nurtured by our highly trained staff and the evidence is in the production. The S Factor, which showcased the musical talent of many of our students, was also brilliant.

The many and varied sports programs including volleyball, mountain biking, and the Bentley Bombers (Girls' AFL) continue to remain attractive and engaging to many students. The Athletics Carnival was well attended and had a great atmosphere throughout the day.

Employment training opportunities were available through VET and a week of Work Experience for Year 10 students.

Our First Nations students in the Polly Farmer program, had the opportunity to attend a week-long leadership course in Sydney titled “Follow the Dream.” The IYLP students didn’t miss out, also having a chance to visit Sydney, and meet students from around the nation.

The first “Flopsy” Assembly (Flynn and Topsy Smith Houses) was an excellent example of collaborative work between the two houses and highly entertaining. We’ve now inducted thirty-six leaders for the 2022/2023 academic year and look forward to the energy and enthusiasm they bring to the College.

I’m honoured to have led the College through this term and grateful for the amazing support I’ve received from students, staff and families. Mr Roger Herbert will be back on deck next term.

I wish you all a restful holiday and if you are traveling, please be safe.

Kind regards,
