COMMUNITY SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS

Congratulations to Remi Mc (5RE) who competed at the Calisthenics State Titles in the holidays. Her team was extremely successful and are now the Junior Reserve Aggregate State Champions!

You’re a star, Remi! Keep up the awesome work!

If your child achieves something special (grand final win, most valuable player award, best and fairest etc.), please email me (jordan.daley@education.vic.gov.au) through photos and an overview of the achievement to post in Contact. It is important to celebrate and recognise such successes with the school community.

ITALIAN DAY

Ciao a tutti!! (Hello everyone!!)

Just a reminder to everyone that Italian Day 2022 is fast approaching.

Italian Day will be celebrated on Thursday, 3rd November.

‘Italian Day’ is bigger and better than ‘Gelati Day’. We celebrate Italian day and Gelati day on alternate years. On ‘gelati day’ the students are only served gelati. Gelati day was celebrated in 2021. On ‘Italian Day’ the students are able to dress out of uniform, have gelati etc.

This is what Italian Day entails

  • Dress up in Italian inspired clothes.
  • A parade for all students to showcase all the different costumes.
  • Gelati for all students.
  • A slice of Margherita pizza per student.
  • Students will complete Italian inspired activities with their class.
  • Cost for gelati & pizza is $8

Some ideas for ‘Italian Day’ dress up day.

  • In Italian colours - Verde (green), Bianco (white) and Rosso (red).
  • Colour hair, nails, or face in the Italian colours
  • Wear Pasta jewelery.
  • Pinocchio
  • Gladiator
  • Mario or Luigi
  • Pizza, coffee machine, spaghetti,
  • Pizza chef, Italian chef
  • Gelati vendor
  • Ferrari, Lamborghini, Vespa etc.
  • Soccer player (any team) Cyclist
  • Fashion model etc. etc. etc.

More information will be provided on Compass. Keep an eye out for it!!

Grazie,

Signora Iebbiano and Signora Leach

Need help navigating the screen seas with your child?

By Justin Coulson

When a parent says "my kids are on their screens too much", the researchers might say "don’t worry… screens aren’t hurting your kids."

But what parents are really saying is "my kids aren’t living full and balanced lives, and they’re seeing stuff that could be harmful or dangerous, or that’s inconsistent with my values." That’s why we’re worried. And that’s why we want our kids to get off their screens.

If screen issues exist, fighting about it won’t help. Force creates resistance. Instead, create a conversation based on the 3 following strategies:

#1 Stay on their side. Let your child know you’re not there to force an issue or fight. You just want to understand and work things out for both of you. Trust is essential. Do they believe you want what’s in their best interest?

#2 Ask them what they have noticed. Start off by exploring how they see things. What are they noticing about screens? How does the conflict feel to them? What do they think the heart of the issue is?

#3 Empower them to work on a solution with you. Ask them how they see things improving. What do they believe is a satisfactory way forward for BOTH of you?
