Learning and Teaching in 3/4H
On Friday the 14th of October, the Year 3/4 students took the potatoes they had dug up from the School Vegetable Garden to create homemade Gnocchi. This aligned with a variety of curriculum areas including Inquiry, Writing, Maths and Design Technology. Students learnt about the importance of growing and cooking your own food, and explored things we need in order for foods to grow in our school garden. Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and even wanted a second plate!
Some highlights from the experience:
- I loved making gnocchi because we got to use potatoes that we grew. Once we finished making the gnocchi we got to eat it! The gnocchi was great and I loved how we got to make it with all of the teachers and mums that helped us - Makayla E.
- I enjoyed the experience of making gnocchi but mostly mashing the potatoes. It was enjoyable and I would definitely make it again. I also loved making patterns on the gnocchi - Ruby A.
- The gnocchi making was very fun. I learnt different skills and I liked getting my hands dirty with the dough and eating it - Darcy R.
- I think gnocchi making is an amazing experience to learn how to cook and be safe in the kitchen. When cooking the gnocchi, it really shows how to be a team and work together. It tasted fantastic and I was so proud of the end product - Zara P.
A huge thank you to our parent helpers - Melea S., Elena S., Ivana K. & Silvana B. for their assistance in making the day a great success.
