SPORTS DAY                  Friday 4th April

From Bill Georgaris, PE Teacher

Sports Day will again be held at Henley Memorial Oval on Cudmore Terrace, Henley Beach. This is a fantastic Little Athletics venue that also provides plenty of shade, car parking and space for all the athletic events.

Again this year we are asking parents to transport their children directly to the oval instead of dropping them at school first.  Students will be required to arrive at the oval from 8.50am ready for roll call at 9.00am. Students who attend OSHC or who cannot be taken directly to the oval will be collected from school at 8.50am and transported to the oval by bus.

A permission and transport note has been given to all students and is attached with this newsletter. Please indicate your child’s transport requirements and return the note to your child’s class teacher(s) by Friday 21st March. This information will be used to manage roll call and confirm bus bookings for those students unable to be privately transported to and/or from the oval.

SAPSASA Western Districts Athletics Day is to be held on Wednesday 3rd September this year. Results obtained from Sports Day events will be used to select the members of our District Day team. Once again students in Years 4 – 7 will be grouped by age rather than class to help with this selection. This includes students born in 2004, 2003, 2002 & 2001 ONLY. Reception to year 3 classes will remain as a class group with their class teacher.

This format allows students to compete on Sports Day with similar aged students and allow teachers to measure and record results that will give a clear indication of who will be successful in gaining a place in the District Day team. Parents are encouraged to assist teachers with the measuring and recording results to make this process run smoothly. Please let your child’s class teacher know if you are able to help them out on the day.

We are looking forward to another successful event and encourage family members to come along and cheer on the students or assist teachers on the day. Teachers will inform new students of their team colours for Sports Day soon and a Sports Day information booklet will be sent home on the Wednesday before Sports Day.

Can you help on Sports Day?

A request for parent helpers is attached below and available at the front office. Your support is greatly appreciated.

On the day, the Governing Council would like to set up a roster of parents to help out for up to half an hour at a time. In this way all parents will be able to support their child in events and support the school with the sports day organisation and the catering arrangements. Please let us know if you can .....Help transport gear to the oval, Help set up shades & equipment, Cook or serve sausages for half an hour, sell drinks and snacks for half an hour, Order and pick up the sausages & bread, set up the BBQ & equipment, Help pack up at the end of the day, Help Sharon (canteen) transport food & set up.

Please return the tear off slip to the office by Monday 17th March so a roster can be worked out. A copy of the roster will be sent home on Friday 21st March.

Thankyou for your support!
